According to Missouri legislation (Protective Services for Adults, n.d.) abuse is defined as the infliction of physical, sexual, or emotional injury or harm including financial exploitation by any person, firm or corporation (para. 4). Furthermore, neglect is the blow to provide services to an legal adult by any person, firm or corporation with a legal or contractual duty to do so, when such failure presents either an imminent danger to the health, safety, or welfare of the client (para. 4). Along with strict definitions of abuse and neglect, Missouris legislation also mandates that any person having reasonable cause to believe that there is a likelihood that, without protection, serious physical harm may occur to an eligible adult shall report information to the department (Protective Services for Adults, n.d., para 6).
